Global Trade Accelerator Program
Eliza Gao and Shi-Shi Troung—Practera, Sydney
The Global Trade Accelerator (GTA) Program is a two-week integrated learning experience set up as a virtual program. It matches predominantly international student teams with NSW-based exporters and trade professionals to complete a value-add international market research report.
The report is written in response to an export brief supplied by the exporter, which outlines their company background, which geographic market they are interested in for exporting purposes and specific areas of focus for research.
The international students are best matched with export briefs that leverage their cultural connections to their home countries and are also supported by curated learning content built on the Practera experiential learning app. The GTA Program is a Study NSW Partner Project and has so far been accessed by almost 500 students, including close to 350 international students since its establishment.
International Education Action Plan
Anouschka Inglis—City of Sydney, Sydney
The City of Sydney’s first International Education Action Plan, adopted in August 2018, articulates the City’s role in supporting the education sector over 10 years, focussing on themes of welcoming, wellbeing and work-integrated-learning. It is delivered in conjunction with strategic partners.
The development of the draft plan involved significant research, sectoral engagement and ongoing structured consultation and guidance from key partners. Members of the public were also able to comment through the Sydney-Your-Say webpage, which attracted 1,100 page visits, 430 downloads of the draft plan, 27 submissions and 20 survey responses.
The plan enables the City to deliver programs that have so far enhanced the lives of thousands of students. Businesses have also benefitted, while relationships and networks have been enhanced across the sector, and barriers reduced. The plan serves as an exemplar for local governments around Australia and internationally.
Your Body, Your Choice
International Student Legal Service NSW, Redfern Legal Centre & City of Sydney, Sydney
Redfern Legal Centre and the City of Sydney have created a ground-breaking resource titled Your Body, Your Choice in collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including Rape Crisis NSW, NSW Health Sexual Assault Service, and NSW Police.
The resource, which is available in 11 different languages, contains important information for students who have experienced sexual assault, and includes key messages specifically tailored to international students.
It takes students through the law in relation to sexual assault, outlining broad definitions of sexual assault behaviours and provides key contacts for free counselling, legal, medical and interpreter services. The key message of Your Body, Your Choice is that sexual assault is a crime and that students can find support through many avenues both safely and confidentially.
